The short version
Tapit plays a sound when you press a key. To do that it has to notice key presses, and that is all it does with them. It never stores, logs or sends what you type. There is no account, no analytics and no tracking, in the app or on this website.
Who is responsible
Tapit is made and sold by Alfie Rees. For anything about privacy, write to hello@tapitsounds.com.
The app
- Key presses. macOS's Input Monitoring permission lets Tapit notice that a key went down. Tapit uses that to choose a sound and then forgets it. Nothing about your typing is written to disk or sent over the network.
- Your microphone. Tapit never opens the microphone and never hears audio. It asks macOS whether the microphone is in use, so it can go quiet during calls. Where macOS reports which app is using it, Tapit shows that app's name on screen and nowhere else.
- Settings. Your volume, chosen sound pack and other preferences are stored on your Mac.
- Pro licence. If you activate Tapit Pro, the app sends your licence key to Lemon Squeezy's licence service to check it, and checks again at most once a week. It sends the key and a fixed label ("Tapit on a Mac"). It does not send your computer's name or anything about your typing. The licence record is kept in your Mac's Keychain.
If you never activate a licence, the app doesn't contact any server.
This website
- No cookies, no analytics, no ad trackers. Fonts, images and sounds are served from this site, not from third parties.
- The typing demo. It runs entirely in your browser. What you type in the box stays in the box and is gone when you leave the page.
- Light or dark. If you pick an appearance, your browser remembers that choice on your device.
- Hosting. The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, it processes your IP address and basic request details to deliver pages and keep the service secure.
Buying Pro
The store isn't open yet. When it opens, purchases will be handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the reseller and merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy collects your payment details; I never see your card number. I receive your name, email address and order details so I can send your licence key and help with support or refunds.
If you email me, I use your address and message to reply. If you ask to be told when Tapit is out, I use your address for that one message.
Your choices
You can ask what information I hold about you, or ask me to delete it, by writing to hello@tapitsounds.com.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
